The basic initial visit, which includes a neurological examination, ranges between $350 and $500. Laboratory tests are usually required and include blood count, thyroid testing, urinalysis and an EKG.  Charges for these tests are in addition to the initial office-visit charge. The total charges usually range between $500 and $1,000. If any of theses tests were done within the past year, or you have undergone a CAT-scan or MRI of the head or neck, please bring the reports with you, as the tests may not have to be repeated. Other tests may be required, and would be at an additional charge.

At your initial visit, please plan to spend about three hours at the clinic. In some cases, hospitalization may be necessary. The inpatient component of the program is located at Saint Joseph Hospital in Chicago. If an inpatient stay is deemed an appropriate option for your specific diagnosis, your hospitalization will likely range from 4 to 12 days. Admission to the 37-bed inpatient unit may occur on the same day as your initial visit or may be scheduled shortly thereafter. It is advised that you come prepared for a hospital stay at the time of your initial appointment.

If the intensive outpatient treatment is a more appropriate option, based on your physician’s diagnosis, the stay ranges from 5 to 12 days. A follow-up clinic visit is usually scheduled two-to-four weeks after your first appointment. The charge for return visits is approximately $170.

Payment is expected at the time of service, unless you have Medicare or we are contracted (in network) with your insurance company. As a courtesy to all patients, we will assist you in billing your insurance company for your initial visit and follow-up visits, provided you bring in your insurance card.  IN RETURN, WE ASK THAT YOU PAY ANY PORTION OF THE DEDUCTIBLE THAT HAS NOT BEEN MET AND ANY APPPLICABLE COPAYMENTS. Any portion not covered by your insurance company will be your responsibility. If you are a member of an HMO, EPO, or POS in which the Diamond Headache Clinic participates, you must also bring a copy of your physician referral. If you are not sure of the type of plan that you have, please check your insurance card or call your insurance company to determine whether you will need a referral to the Diamond Headache Clinic in order to receive benefits.
